CAT LOVERS WILL LOVE IT BUT ITS SO MUCH BIGGER THAN THAT
Feeding 500 is a 20 minute documentary in Arabic with English subtitles and has been directed by a 25 year old Emirati from Abu Dhabi, called Rafed Alharthi. It is the evocative story about one man’s passion, determination and struggle to feed 500 stray cats each day - which he has been doing tirelessly since 1995. It is Rafed’s first documentary.

As well as being selected for the Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival www.encounters-festival.org.uk (the only Arab film chosen from 2,372 entries for the festival) - where it will screen on Wednesday 18th September at 17:30pm at The Watershed, Bristol followed by a Q&A with the director and producer - Feeding 500 has also been screened at three international festivals this year: Ismaïlia International Festival for Documentary and Short Films, Egypt; Cinemadamare, Italy; Two Riversides, Poland; and flEXiff – and is has been accepted for four more: Cinewest, Australia; Nour Festival of Arts, UK; Beirut International Film Festival, Lebanon and Festival International du Court Métrage, France.
Feeding 500 is one of the results of a very interesting initiative developed by the media company twofour54 who are based in Abu Dhabi http://twofpur54.com/en twofour54 is driving the development of the creative industries in the region, supporting talent and content development, creativity and young entrepreneurs. To enable this they have developed ‘creative lab’ which loans equipment, gives mentoring etc: Since its establishment in 2010, creative lab has worked across all media platforms, including short film, music, digital ideas such as apps and webisodes, and completed over 55 projects, in which over 400 young Arabs have participated. This short signals an example of the growing interest in media and filmmaking amongst young people in Abu Dhabi and the wave of creatives coming out of this young and fast changing region.
